Thank God It's Friday

If there really was a magic balloon
I would float far, far away from my job.
My job that gives me chest pain
keeps me up at night
and keeps my mind whirling!

For now,
I'll just keep painting.

Have a great weekend,

Karen

New Art..Reclaimed Wood Panels

We found some large wood panels at the flea market last weekend

This is what I have created with them.

One sweet praying angel.

One beautiful angel with lots of texture, crackle and beeswax.

New paint techniques and a clean studio are a great combination!
Have a great day!

Favorite Artist Update

I've said before, Holly Farrell is one of my favorite artists. I saw her interviewed on Design, Inc. (my favorite design show on the Fine Living Network)
and was amazed at her talent. She is a self taught artist and I am always amazed at her talent. Her paintings are WAY out of my price range so I just love looking at her web site.

These are her latest paintings...aparently, she's showing in Japan. If you're in the neighborhood.....

I've got a new painting on E-bay. a large angel (12" x 40") painted on reclaimed wood. Click here to check it out!

Have a great day.

Angel and Vintage Lace

I tried something different with my newest painting.
Take a look.
I started with a canvas - layed down a thick layer of modeling paste

I created a bit of a pattern with the paste.

I painted and collaged directly on the textured canvas.

Tied it up with a piece of vintage lace and fastened on some vintage buttons.
I think it turned out nice...what do you think??
Have a great Wednesday,
Karen

Bird's Eye View

I may have mentioned in the past that I live only a few miles from Rehoboth Beach.
If my life gets too hectic, I need to feel like I've escaped from the world or if I just want to hide for few hours - I usually go to the beach to try to calm down.
Lately, I've avoided the crowds. Stayed to myself. Hung around the house.

Today, I'm feeling less like this guy...standing alone on the rock. I don't feel the need to isolate myself anymore, dwell on my issues or obsess over what should have been or could have been.

I'm ready to join the world again....I'm done wallowing now. (as my mother would say) Time to put on my big girl panties and move on. Half of the battle is done.
Thanks for the positive thoughts sent my way!!
Have a great weekend,
Karen

Sara Elizabeth..New Angel Art

When I'm searching for Peace...
I go to my studio for some painting.
This angel, I call Sara Elizabeth.

I attached a beautiful brass medallion that I found at a flea market,
in a wooden box full of metal objects.

(sold, thank you)

Wishing you Peace,

One Day at a Time

Acceptance and Commitment TherapyImage by Leonard John Matthews via Flickr

I am not an addict but the events in my life, lately, have given me cause to recite the Serenity Prayer over and over in my head.

Just when I think things can't get any worse....life comes along to show me , YES, it can!

Today, I'm looking for wisdom!

Have a great day,

Karen

Fat Smash

'CoverCover via Amazon

So, on a previous post, I mentioned my desire to lose weight, an ongoing battle!! Everyone at work is currently on the "Fat Smash Diet", the Dr. Ian Smith Diet of the Celebrity Fit Club. I don't know all of the details because my own book hasn't arrived in the mail yet but I do know the first nine days is a Detox program.

For the last three days I have eaten nothing but vegetables and fruit and water (okay, diet soda, too but that's it!) For the first two days, I would have slapped someone for a carb...yesterday I was standing in my co-worker's office and I felt for a moment that I might just pass out. I think that I could actually eat more during the day than the nectarine that I ate between the time I woke up and 5pm (that might have had something to do with the dizziness) but the raw vegetables that were packed in my bag just seemed unappealing to me!

The great thing about this part of the diet though is the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables. I love stopping at the produce stands on the way home from work and buying fresh picked vegetables and fruits for dinner. There's a very large open air market on my way home that is fast becoming my favorite place to shop! They offer samples of their melons, pineapple, cherries, blueberries, and strawberries . They offer local organic produce and carry just about every fruit and vegetable you can think of and some you've never seen or heard of. If you don't feel like cooking dinner, there's a guy outside on the BBQ. They even have a table of $1.00 items that are ready to eat....I bought a giant bag of tiny asparagus that were just ripe...I roasted them and OMG were they delicious!!

So....Day 4 of my 9 day Detox diet begins. Maybe my book will arrive today and I will know what is in store for me. I know that we are all losing weight (water weight) and feeling light as a feather..haha! I'm off to ship out some paintings that sold (thank you!) and plan for a family reunion.

Have a great day!,

Karen

A Perfectly Beautiful Day

The day couldn't have been any nicer...85 degrees, sunny, little bit of breeze..... The garden is in full bloom. Thought I'd share their beauty with you....

The lily's are always so beautiful!

Bee Balm has taken over the front garden.

This little guy is supposed to bring good luck, isn't he?

My very favorite hydrangea!
Next post, maybe I'll show you the runaway pumpkin plant! Our vegetable garden looks like "Jack and the Beanstalk"

Have a great Sunday,
Karen

Sold..thank you
The year is half way over and it's time to give my employees their mid-year evaluations. It made me think about myself and where I am in the process of accomplishing my goals for the year.

Here's a list of the things that I want to do before the year is over....

1. Lose 40 pounds (or at least 30)

2. Exercise at least 3 or 4 times per week..right now, I don't do anything. NOTHING

I get up at 4:30 every morning and go to work for 10 or 11 hours per day. By the

By the time I get home...I'm exhausted and I either work on the computer or paint.

3. Clean up my studio....it would be nice for that room to be clean and organized just

once!

4. Use my sewing machine more often....finish all of the projects that I've bought

fabric for.

I could go on and on but I'd like to be realistic...How about you? I'm sure you have made New Year's Resolutions but have you reevaluated yourself? If so, How are you doing?
Have a great Thursday,
Karen
